And there upon my perch
I spy a shard,
Lying on the ground
Half hidden from my view
By a thousand others.
I must have it.
Whether it completes my form or not,
I must have it.
Reaching out
For the piece
I cannot live without,
I reach too far
And slip off the edge.
Gravity
Is an unforgiving taskmaster.
I lay
Broken
But not shattered.
New veins,
Scars of my recent downfall,
Join old cracks,
Vestiges of previous failures.
How many times can I break
And not shatter?
Crumbs of the shell I am
Litter the ground,
Unable to withstand impact.
So high above
I felt I was,
Yet now I see
It was a mere illusion.
Created by my haste
For finding my missing piece
And completing myself.
I should not settle,
But I must find my other half.
Else my existence will drain completely
Into the puddle of life
Already surrounding my feet.
I cannot be filled,
Lest the Potter sees fit
To remold me
With His sacred tears.
Smoothing my sides,
Filling my cracks,
I'd be stronger
Yet thinner,
A consequence
Of the traces of myself
Left behind
In past searches.
I pick myself up.
Looking at the shard at my feet,
I realize I misjudged.
It could never be what I seek.
I move on,
Continuing my quest
To find my other.
I know I'll find it someday,
For the Potter
Wishes to fill me.
I will be whole.
My journey will end,
And my life will begin,
Someday.
